Registry Overview

Liberia has a national registration system for yachts and ships. It is one of the largest registries in the world with regard to ships. The registry is administered by the Liberian Registry which is headquartered in Dulles, Virginia USA..Liberia, officially known as the Republic of Liberia, is located on the West African coast. It is an independent republic and the official language is English.

Registration Office

The Liberian Registry is headquartered in Vienna, Virginia and maintains offices in New York, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Leer, London, Piraeus, Tokyo, Zurich, Singapore and Monrovia. The Liberian Registry is administered by the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR, LLC) which is a private U.S. owned and globally operated company. The registration staff in New York and the regional offices are available to assist with the registration process and to explain all procedures.

Registration Requirements

The Liberian Registry is open to any type of vessel providing it meets  certain standards. This includes a stipulation that a vessel must be less than 20 years of age. The vessel owner must be a  registered corporation in Liberia or another foreign government

Recording Methods

The Liberian Registry allows for mortgage recordings against actively registered vessels as well as vessels under construction, providing the mortgage meets all registry standards.

Registration Search

Transcripts of registry showing ownership, liens, and mortgages may be obtained from the main Liberian registry office, one its regional offices, or a Liberian registration service company.
