State numbering.
The
registration number prefix for the State of Missouri is "MO".
Although assigned to documented vessels, the numbers may not be
displayed.
Title Certificate.
Titles are
required for all registered boats that are not Coast Guard documented.
Registration Certificate.
All motorized
boats and any sailboats longer than 12 feet must be
registered, including Coast Guard documented vessels.
Exceptions are those propelled solely by paddle or oars (regardless of length),
sailboats or sailboards less than 12 feet in length, or
a ship's lifeboat used solely for lifesaving purposes.
Sales & Use Tax.
A paid
personal property tax receipt listing the boat or a statement of
non-assessment must be presented when registering.
Loan perfection.
Non-documented boats - secured on the state title.
Coast Guard documented boats - Preferred vessel mortgage.
Registration Agency.
The
Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Bureau administers
boat registration and titling.
State record search.
The Division
of Motor Vehicles will not provide boat information over the
telephone. Contact a public record vendor for written reports.
Ownership designations.
The term
"and" is used for joint ownership.
Residency requirements.
Residency is
not required for titling if the boat is housed within the
state.
Bonded titling & registration.
Bonded titles are available.
Hull number inspection.
Required if
there is a discrepancy with the hull number and on state hull
number assignments.
Outboard motors.
Outboard
motors, regardless of the horsepower and size, must be titled
and registered. Trolling motors are exempt from such
requirements.
Notary Public.
Embosser or
inked stamp required for notary seals.
Dealer & broker licensing.
State
licensing and bonding is required for boat dealers and brokers.
Visitation period.
60 days.
