State numbering. The boat registration number prefix for this state is "WY".
Title certificate. Boat titles are not issued. This is a registration only state.
Registration certificate. All motorboats powered by propulsion machinery of any type and operated on the waters of this state must be registered. These include but are not limited to, motorboats, rowboats, sailboats, sailboards, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, rowing shells, or sculls, all terrain vehicles used in the water, and inflatable craft. Registration is not required on Coast Guard documented boats.
Sales & use tax. Sales tax is levied on first time boat registrations and ownership transfers.
Loan perfection. Security interests in non-documented boats must be recorded with a UCC financing statement. A preferred vessel mortgage is required on Coast Guard documented vessels.
Registration agency. Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Watercraft Section.
Boat record search. The Game and Fish Department will confirm documents in hand. Written reports must be obtained from a boat record vendor.
Ownership designations. There are no specific ownership designations for this state.
Residency requirements. Owner residency is not required if the vessel is located within the state.
Reporting requirements. Transfers of ownership, abandonments, destructions, and thefts must be reported within 15 days.
Hull number inspection. None required.
Outboard motors. Registration and title certificates are not issued.
Notary public. An inked notary embosser or stamp must be used by notaries in this state.
Visitation period. 90 days.
