Registration Requirements |
All
motorboats powered by propulsion machinery of any type and
operated on the waters of this state must be registered in
Wyoming. These
include but are not limited to, motorboats, rowboats, sailboats,
sailboards, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, rowing shells, or
sculls, all terrain vehicles used in the water, and inflatable
craft. Registration is not required on Coast Guard documented
boats. |

Title Requirements |
Boats in
Wyoming must become titled in order to obtain a first time
registration certificate. This does not apply to renewals unless
there has been a change of ownership. Boat titling is handled by
the respective county clerk's office whereas boat registration
certificates are issued by the Wyoming Game and Fish department. |

Sales tax is
levied on first time boat registrations and ownership transfers
in Wyoming. |

Loan Perfection |
Security
interests in state titled boats are recorded on the title
records. On non-documented or non-titled boats a security
interest is perfected with a UCC financing statement. If the
vessel is Coast Guard documented, a
preferred vessel mortgage must be recorded with the National
Vessel Documentation Center. |

Ownership Designations |
Although
Wyoming does not designate joint ownership terms on boat
registration records, this can be shown on the title records. |

Residency Requirements |
Non-residents
may apply for a registration if the boat is located within the
State of Wyoming. |

Reporting Requirements |
Transfers of
ownership, abandonments, destructions, and thefts must be
reported within 15 days. |

Hull Inspection |
The boat must
be inspected by a Wyoming law enforcement official if there is a
discrepancy with the hull identification number. |

Boat trailer
registration is required in Wyoming. Titling is required for
those weighing over 1,000 lbs. It is optional for those weighing

all notarized documents. |

Visitation Period |
A visitation
period of 90 days is allowed for boats that are registered in another state,
Coast Guard documented, or registered in a foreign country. |
